Don’t Wait Too Long

We grow up with people in our lives, mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters, and childhood friends. As we grow up and move away, other activities take over and guide us down different paths to different destinations. Yet, it is always important to keep in touch with the places and people where we began.

We assume that everything will stay stagnant, and just the way we remember it when we leave the people we care for and the places that we love. That is not the way life works though, everyone continues to grow, to learn, to experience, and to change along with their surroundings and new things that come into their lives. We change, and everyone else we know changes.

It is a positive experience to go back and see those changes. To reconnect with the people of our past and see what they are doing now. They may have new friends and new ambitions. And things that they do now may be unique and exciting. You never know how much you miss out on until you go back and take a look.

And taking the trip to see family and friends will often surprise you. Some things change, and some things stay the same. The overall mix actually grows better, as a common rule, and everyone seems happier. And if you’ve been gone for a while, they are always glad to see you.

I spent most of this week in Florida visiting with my mom and my stepdad. Two of my sons took a few days off from their job and came also. It was a fantastic time, and I felt rejuvenated. It is always good to occasionally get out of the daily rut and visit with those who know you best. Yet it also made me realize, that I had been gone for a long time, and I would like to visit more often.

It is nice to go back and visit. It reminds us of where we have come from, and to give us understanding as to why we chose to go to where we are going. Much of what I can do today I can trace back to things that were done as a family when I was younger. Knowing and understanding this helps me to rekindle those flames and step out to do better at the things which I aspire to.

If it’s been a while since you’ve been home, I highly recommend the trip. Even if the home has moved to another city or another state, still go and visit. For that is where the real home is, it lives within the loved ones.

Thank you for being with me today. I hope to be with you again tomorrow.
